Satellite

Globalstar Australia owns and operates the Australian based GlobalstarTM network infrastructure which has been purpose built at a total cost in excess of $70M. This investment enables Mobile everywhere® and Data everywhere® voice and data services to be enjoyed by all Australians. Globalstar Australia has a commercial agreement with Globalstar LLC (USA) to acquire satellite airtime on the GlobalstarTM constellation of low earth orbit satellites. The low earth orbit satellites operate like mobile base stations in the sky providing voice quality and ease of use similar to that enjoyed by most terrestrial mobile phones.

Data everywhere®

Data everywhere® is a simple to use internet access service that allows users to connect to the Internet, access Web mail or download files.

Data everywhere® operates in one of three modes, no compression, client free (operates without any client side compression), or client server mode (involves downloading and installing a small application). Data everywhere® users will achieve data speeds of up to 9.6kbps (uncompressed) or more effective rates of up to 38.4kbps2 (comparable to standard dial-up modem rates) by installing the Data everywhere® accelerator client on your personal computer.

Globalstar customers with Qualcomm products can connect to Globalstar's packet data service by dialing into #777 or make an asynchronous data connection by dialing into 0420 10 10 10.

Data everywhere® will run under Microsoft Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems and can only be used in Satellite mode.

Subsidy

Before buying a GlobalstarTM mobile phone, you should verify your eligibility for a Satellite Mobile Phone Subsidy which is available to approved applicants who live, work or operate a business in an area not served by the terrestrial GSM or CDMA mobile networks. You may be eligible to receive up to $1,200 off the purchase price of your phone3. For further Satellite mobile subsidy information please visit  www.dcita.gov.au  - The Satellite Phone Subsidy Scheme

CDMA

Globalstar Australia’s customers currently enjoy the dual mode benefit of the GlobalstarTM Satellite service and the national CDMA service utilising a single handset and receiving a single bill. Globalstar customers are able to roam onto Australia’s national CDMA network which together with the satellite service gives 100% mobile coverage1. When out of CDMA range simply switch over to satellite mode and services such as voicemail (121) and directory assistance (1223) continue to operate identically regardless of the mode of operation.

Please note: Telstra has advised that they will be switching off the national CDMA network in 2008. Once it has been switched off Globalstar dual mode phones will continue to operate in satellite mode only. An alternative dual mode cellular and satellite solution is currently being investigated.

Coverage

The Globalstar Mobile everywhere® and Data everywhere® service provides users with 100% coverage right across Australia1 and up to 500 nautical miles into the Southern & Indian Oceans, including New Zealand and New Caledonia1.

Globalstar’s satellite coverage is provided by a constellation of 40 Low Earth Orbiting (LEO) satellites. Signals from a GlobalstarTM phone or modem operating in Satellite mode are received by Globalstar’s constellation of LEO satellites and relayed to ground-based gateways.

To achieve connectivity to one of these 40 satellites, a clear view of the sky is needed. Surrounding obstructions that reduce the amount of visible sky may affect your line of sight to the satellites, causing a temporary and short term interference with your satellite signal. However as these 40 satellites are continuously moving, it will only take a few minutes for a satellite to be overhead allowing you to connect and make a call.

1)  Reception limitations and some exclusion zones apply. A clear view of the sky is required for operation in Satellite mode. Some Australian external territories excluded.

2)Actual data rates may vary. Unit operates at native 9.6kbps uncompressed. Users must download the Data everywhere®  accelarator client for effective data rates up to 38.4kbps. Data capabilities not available in CDMA mode, with the GSP1600 mobile phone.

3)  Satellite Phone Subsidy subject to approval by the Australian Government Department of Communications, Information Technology and the Arts.
